TaylorMade's first P790 irons hit shelves in 2017 and effectively created a new category, the players distance iron, built for golfers who want a compact players shape without giving up the ball speed of a game improvement iron.
Hollow body, forged face
A forged 4140 carbon steel face wraps around and welds onto a cast 8620 steel body, so the part that meets the ball is forged while the rest of the head is built for speed and stability.
SpeedFoam
A proprietary polyurethane foam fills the hollow head behind the face, an idea borrowed from TaylorMade's golf ball engineers, boosting ball speed and improving sound and feel at impact. Later generations switched to a lighter SpeedFoam Air, nearly 70% less dense than the original.
