The Honest Breakdown

Why smart golfers are quietly making the switch

No gatekeeping, no brand worship. Just the stuff nobody at the big box store is going to tell you.

You're probably overpaying for clubs that don't fit your game.

Most new drivers run $500+, and most of that price tag is marketing, not performance. The forgiving, high-launch tech you actually need as a mid or beginner golfer? It's already baked into last year's model — or a "less hyped" brand like Cobra or Tour Edge Exotics. Same forgiveness, half the price.

"Underrated" brands are underrated for a reason: nobody's paying to hype them.

Callaway and TaylorMade spend a fortune on ads. Cobra and Tour Edge spend it on R&D instead. That's not a downgrade — that's the move smart golfers are already making.

A beat-up RBZ hits the ball exactly like a mint one.

The performance doesn't scuff. A used TaylorMade RBZ with a few paint chips launches the ball just as far as one fresh off the wall. If you're chasing distance and forgiveness — not a showroom finish — you're leaving money on the table by buying new.

Building a full bag under budget isn't a compromise — it's a formula.

Driver, hybrid, forgiving irons, a solid wedge, a putter under $50. It's entirely possible to build a mid-handicap-ready bag for under $1,200 when you know which pieces are worth spending on and which aren't. Most golfers just never get shown the formula. We'll walk you through it.

The real barrier to golf was never talent. It was cost.

That's the whole reason GolfRoots exists: so the price of a starter set isn't the reason someone never picks up a club. And if you outgrow it? The trade-in gets you 100% of that value back toward your next full set. No trap, no catch.

Questions golfers actually ask us

Are used clubs actually reliable?

Yes. Every pre-owned club is inspected and given an honest condition rating before it ships. Cosmetic wear doesn't change how a club performs — a scuffed RBZ launches the ball just like a mint one. You'll always know exactly what you're getting.

Won't "off-brand" clubs hurt my game?

Not even close. Brands like Cobra and Tour Edge Exotics pour their budgets into R&D instead of ad campaigns. The forgiveness and launch tech you need is right there — you're just skipping the marketing markup.

Can I really build a full bag for under $1,200?

Absolutely. Driver, hybrid, forgiving irons, a solid wedge and a putter under $50 add up to a mid-handicap-ready bag well under $1,200. Our build tool shows you which pieces are worth spending on and which aren't.

What if I outgrow my set?

Trade it in and get 100% of that value back toward your next set. Your starter bag isn't a dead end — it's the first step.

How do I get started?
