Most golfers need a standard grip. To check, measure your top hand from the crease of your wrist to the tip of your middle finger. Golf Pride says 6.6 to 7.5 inches fits a standard grip, 7.6 to 9 inches fits midsize, and over 9 inches fits jumbo. Your glove size is a good shortcut.

How do I check if my grip fits?
Hold the club with your top hand. Golf Pride's test: with the right size, your fingers barely touch the heel pad of your hand. If your fingers dig into the pad, the grip is too small. If they don't reach it, the grip is too big.
Does grip size cause hooks or slices?
You'll often hear that small grips cause hooks and big grips cause slices. The evidence is thin. Plugged In Golf tested five golfers with undersize, standard, midsize and jumbo grips and found every tester performed about the same with each, and not one data set supported the small-grips-cause-hooks idea. MyGolfSpy's take is that grip size can nudge an existing tendency but is rarely the root cause. Pick the size that feels comfortable and lets you hold the club with light pressure.
Who should go bigger?
Golf Pride suggests golfers with arthritis or joint pain consider a larger, softer grip, since it takes less effort to hold. Players with big hands, or anyone who grips too tightly, often like a midsize too.
Can tape change my grip size?
Yes. Golf Pride says 2 to 4 extra wraps of tape under the grip will increase the size slightly. As a rough guide from clubmaking supplier Mitchell Golf, each extra spiral wrap of tape adds about 1/64 of an inch. That lets us fine-tune size between standard and midsize when we regrip your clubs.
What about putter grips?
Putter grips follow different rules. Under the Rules of Golf, putter grips can be non-circular, like flat-front pistol and paddle shapes, while grips on every other club must be round. Oversize putter grips are popular because they quiet the hands and need less grip pressure. Many golfers simply try a few at the shop and pick what feels best.
FAQ
What size grip do most men use?
Standard. Men with large or XL gloves often prefer midsize.
Is midsize the same as oversize?
Midsize is one step up from standard. Jumbo, sometimes called oversize, is the next step up.
Can I try grip sizes before I buy?
Yes. Come by our shop in Farmers Branch and hold a few on our grip wall. Installation is included when you buy the grip from us. See regripping prices.
