Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo: The Budget Metalwood Line Built for Forgiveness

The Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo is a game improvement line of drivers, fairway woods, hybrids and irons that Cleveland released in October 2019, and it is one of the better values in the used market because it was built to be forgiving rather than to chase tour numbers. GolfRoots has more than 40 used Launcher clubs listed right now, from early drivers to the HB Turbo fairways.

What changed with the HB Turbo

Cleveland relaunched its full line about two years earlier with the first HB Launcher metalwoods and irons, aimed at recreational golfers. The HB Turbo was the update. The driver has a titanium Cup Face with variable face thickness, a titanium HiBore crown that lowers the center of gravity, and 35 grams of weight placed deep and low. Cleveland said the center of gravity sits 10 percent deeper than the original Launcher and heel to toe MOI is 8 percent higher. The driver has no adjustable hosel or weights, which kept it light. It was still built with some draw bias, though less than the first generation, and Cleveland added a 10.5 degree draw model. At launch the driver listed at $349 and the fairway woods at $219.

The irons and hybrids

The HB Turbo irons use a fully hollow body with internal ribs, a thin high strength steel face insert, and a HiBore crown design. The Launcher UHX irons were a combo set with hollow long irons and cavity back short irons. The Launcher Halo hybrid was introduced in the same release. Used sets are easy to find in men's, women's and left handed versions.

Common questions

Is the Launcher HB Turbo driver adjustable?

No. Cleveland left out an adjustable hosel and movable weights to save weight, so loft and lie are fixed.

Who is the Launcher line best for?

Golfers who want help with mishits and a higher launch, including mid to high handicap players and anyone building a set on a budget.
