The TaylorMade P790 and Titleist T200 are both players distance irons: compact, good-looking heads with hidden technology that adds distance and forgiveness. The P790 is a true hollow-body iron filled with SpeedFoam and tends to feel springier and launch a bit higher. The T200 uses a thin forged face backed by polymer (Titleist's Max Impact technology) and many golfers find it a little more Titleist-like in feel and look. Used, P790 sets run about $470 to $1,400 and T200 sets about $400 to $900 at GolfRoots.

How is the P790 built?
The P790 launched in 2017 as a hollow-body iron with a forged face and SpeedFoam injected inside to support the face and dampen sound. That combination of a players look with game improvement speed is why it's often called the original players distance iron (read our P790 spotlight). Each generation refined it: the 2019 version had a thinner face and heavier tungsten, the 2021 version switched to lighter SpeedFoam Air and added more tungsten, the 2023 version used AI-optimized tungsten placement, and the 2025 version added a forged 4340M face and a thru-slot in the 4 to 7 irons.
How is the T200 built?
The T200 replaced Titleist's AP3 in 2019. Its Max Impact technology puts a thin forged face insert backed by polymer in the long and mid irons, with heavy tungsten to lower the center of gravity. The 2021 version brought Max Impact 2.0 with a new polymer core and more tungsten, and the 2023 version moved the Max Impact structure closer to the face and reduced offset. It isn't a hollow iron in the same way as the P790, which is part of why many golfers describe its feel as more solid.
Which iron should you buy used?
- Choose the P790 if you want the most distance and launch from a compact iron and like a lively feel. It's also our best-stocked players distance iron, across every generation.
- Choose the T200 if you prefer Titleist's look and a slightly more solid feel, or want to pair it with T100 or T150 irons in a combo set. See T100 vs T150 vs T350.
- On a budget: an older generation of either (P790 2019 or T200 2019/2021) gives most of the performance for far less.
Check lofts before you buy. Players distance irons have strong lofts (the 2021 P790 pitching wedge is 45 degrees, and Titleist lists the current T200 7 iron at 31 degrees and pitching wedge at 43), so you may need a gap wedge to fill the space below your pitching wedge.

FAQ
Is the P790 more forgiving than the T200?
They're close. Both are built for forgiveness in a compact head. The P790's hollow body gives a little more ball speed on mishits for many golfers; fitting tells you which suits your swing.
Which year of P790 is best to buy used?
The 2021 and 2023 models are the sweet spot for value. The 2019 is the cheapest, and the 2025 is the newest and most expensive.
Is the T200 a hollow-body iron?
Not in the same way as the P790. It uses a forged face backed by polymer in a multi-material head.
Can I hit them before buying?
Yes. Test irons on the simulator at our Farmers Branch shop, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. See our Dallas shop page.
