The RBZ, short for RocketBallz, launched in February 2012 and became one of the best-selling drivers of its era, built around a single new idea that TaylorMade still uses in one form or another today.
The Speed Pocket
A slot cut into the sole just behind the face let more of the clubface flex at impact, which widened the sweet spot and helped reduce spin, especially on shots struck low on the face. It was a simple concept that made mishits noticeably longer.
What came after
RBZ went through several follow-ups, an aerodynamics-focused Stage 2 in 2013, RBZ Black in 2014, and RBZ Speed in 2015, before the Speed Pocket idea carried forward into the M and Stealth driver families.
