The TaylorMade Stealth 2 (2023) is a more forgiving version of the original Stealth (2022). Both use a red 60X Carbon Twist Face, but Stealth 2's face is larger and lighter, its body uses much more carbon, and the saved weight moves low and back for more stability. The original Stealth is the better value used; Stealth 2 is the pick if you want a bit more forgiveness.

What changed from Stealth to Stealth 2?
The original Stealth was TaylorMade's first carbon-face driver. The 60-layer carbon face was about 40% lighter than a comparable titanium face, which let TaylorMade make the face larger and move weight elsewhere. (Callaway had tried a carbon composite face back in 2004, so it wasn't the first in golf, but Stealth was the first to go mainstream.)
Stealth 2 kept that idea and pushed it further:
- Lighter, larger face: 24g instead of 26g.
- More carbon in the body: TaylorMade says the standard Stealth 2 and HD use nearly twice as much carbon as the original, and Stealth 2 Plus about 75% more.
- Inertia Generator: a 25g tungsten weight placed low and back to raise MOI. The HD version uses 30g positioned toward the heel for a draw bias.
The result is a more forgiving head with a similar look at address. Read more in our Stealth 2 spotlight.
Which Stealth model is right for you?
- Plus (Stealth Plus, Stealth 2 Plus): lowest spin and most workable, with a sliding weight. Lofts 8, 9 and 10.5. Best for faster, consistent swingers.
- Standard (Stealth, Stealth 2): mid launch and spin, more forgiving than Plus. Lofts 9, 10.5 and 12. Fits the widest range of golfers.
- HD (Stealth HD, Stealth 2 HD): draw bias, highest launch and most forgiveness. Lofts 9, 10.5 and 12. Best if you fight a slice.
Should you buy a used Stealth or Stealth 2?
If price matters most, the original Stealth is the better deal: it's well stocked used and most listings sit around $270. If you want the extra forgiveness, Stealth 2 is the upgrade, though we see fewer of them come in, so stock is thinner. Both have since been replaced by the TaylorMade Qi10 family (2024), so read what's actually new in the Qi10 if you're considering the next step.
What to check when buying a used Stealth driver
- Face condition: look closely at the red carbon face in the photos. Scuffs on the paint are cosmetic; cracks are not. Our condition grade and photos show the face.
- Shaft: stock shafts varied by model (for example Ventus Red or Aldila Ascent Red on the original Stealth, Ventus Red TR or Diamana S+ on Stealth 2). Each listing names the exact shaft and flex.
- Hosel setting: the loft sleeve may have been adjusted. Check it before you play.
