About the Ping Anser
Ping founder Karsten Solheim introduced the Anser putter in 1966. His wife Louise suggested the name, a shortened spelling of answer that fit on the toe. Its heel-toe weighted cavity back, offset hosel and alignment lines were copied so widely that Anser became the name for a whole style of putter, and Anser models have won more than 500 tour events. Ping has made many versions over the years, so the Anser name shows up on putters from different decades and lines.
How to identify your Anser
The Anser name is on the head, along with the series it came from, such as PLD, and sometimes a number, like Anser 2. The series matters, because an Anser from one line is not the same putter as one from another. Also note the length and whether it still has the original grip. If you are not sure which version you have, our guide to identifying your golf clubs can help, or send us photos of the head and sole.
What affects your Anser's trade-in value
For a putter, the face and sole tell most of the story. Bag chatter, dings on the topline, worn or chipped paint fill and scratches on the face all lower the condition grade, while a clean face and crisp milling help it. A worn or torn grip and a bent or rusty shaft also count against it. Length matters too, since standard lengths are the easiest to resell.
Ping keeps releasing new Anser versions, so which series your putter comes from and how old it is make a big difference to its trade-in value. For more on how we price used clubs, read what are my golf clubs worth?
