Choose the G440 MAX if you want the most forgiving all-around driver, the G440 LST if you swing fast and need less spin, the G440 SFT if you fight a slice, and an HL version of the MAX or SFT if you have a slower swing and want a lighter club.
Ping launched the G440 family on January 14, 2025. Every model got Ping's Carbonfly Wrap crown and a new Free Hosel design that saved 4 grams, and Ping said the line has the lowest center of gravity it had put in a driver to that point. All three heads also use Ping's Trajectory Tuning 2.0 hosel, with eight settings that move loft up or down by 1.5 degrees. Here is how the versions differ.

These are the same GolfRoots Club Profile ratings shown on our product pages. Dots run from 1 (Low) to 5 (High or Highest). More spin dots means more spin, which is not better or worse on its own.
In 2026 Ping added the G440 K, a higher MOI model. We have not added Club Profile ratings for it yet, so it is covered below instead of in the table.
Ping G440 MAX: the one most golfers should start with
The G440 MAX has a 460cc head and a 29 gram back weight with three positions to nudge shot shape toward a draw or fade. Ping calls it the most forgiving model in the main lineup. It comes in 9, 10.5 and 12 degrees.
It suits the widest range of golfers, from higher handicaps who need forgiveness to single digit players who just want a straight driver.
Ping G440 LST: lower spin for faster swings
The LST has a slightly smaller 450cc head and a 29 gram back weight, and it is built to launch lower and spin less than the MAX. It comes in 9 and 10.5 degrees.
It suits faster swinging golfers whose drives climb too high or spin too much. Slower swingers usually lose carry with it, so be honest about your speed.
Ping G440 SFT: built to fight a slice
SFT stands for Straight Flight Technology. The 460cc head has a 23 gram back weight with Draw and Draw+ settings, both positioned to help the ball curve right to left for a right handed golfer. For the first time, the SFT came in 9 degrees as well as 10.5.
It suits golfers whose regular miss is a fade or slice.
Ping G440 HL: the lightweight option
HL stands for High Launch. It is a lighter build of the MAX or SFT, with a lighter back weight, a Ping Alta Quick shaft and a lighter grip. Ping designed it for slower swinging golfers who do not generate enough clubhead speed with a standard weight driver. The LST is not offered in HL.
Ping G440 K: the highest MOI version
Ping released the G440 K in January 2026. It has a 460cc head with carbon on both the crown and sole, a combined MOI of more than 10,000, and a 32 gram tungsten back weight that can be set to neutral, draw or fade. It comes in 9, 10.5 and 12 degrees. It suits golfers who want the most stable Ping driver available. Shop used Ping G440 K drivers.
Which G440 should you choose?
- If your swing is on the slower side: look at the HL MAX, or the HL SFT if you also slice.
- If your miss is a slice: the SFT, starting in the Draw setting.
- If you are a mid to high handicap or just want fairways: the MAX, or the K if you want even more stability.
- If you swing fast and your ball flight is too high or spinny: the LST.
Loft and shaft matter as much as the head. A fitting or a launch monitor session will tell you more than any chart.
What should you check when buying one used?
- Crown and face. Sky marks and light paint wear are cosmetic. Look for cracks, dents or chips, especially on carbon crowns and faces.
- Weights. Check that the back weight is present and tight. On the MAX and SFT, note which setting it is in, since that changes shot shape.
- Hosel. Make sure the adapter tightens properly and note the loft setting it is in.
- Shaft. The shaft matters as much as the head version. Check the flex, weight and length. Not sure which flex you need? Read What Shaft Flex Do I Need?
