Ping G430 MAX vs LST vs SFT vs MAX 10K: Which G430 Driver Is Right for You?

The G430 MAX is the forgiving all-rounder, the MAX 10K is the most stable, the LST is for fast swings that spin too much, and the SFT fights a slice. Here is how to choose.

Choose the G430 MAX if you want a forgiving all-around driver, the G430 MAX 10K if you want the most stability Ping offered in this generation, the G430 LST if you swing fast and need less spin, and the G430 SFT if your miss is a slice.

Ping launched the G430 drivers in January 2023 with the MAX, LST and SFT, then added the MAX 10K on January 9, 2024. All four use Ping's Trajectory Tuning 2.0 hosel, with eight settings that move loft up or down by 1.5 degrees. Here is how they differ.

Ping G430 MAX: the standard model

The G430 MAX has a 460cc head and a 25 gram tungsten back weight that moves between positions to adjust shot shape. It comes in 9, 10.5 and 12 degrees, and Ping designed it to fit the widest range of golfers.

It suits most players, from beginners to single digit handicaps, who want a forgiving driver that stays straight.

Ping G430 LST: lower spin, smaller head

The LST has a smaller 440cc head and was the first G430 with Ping's Carbonfly Wrap, an eight-layer composite crown that saves weight to lower the center of gravity. It has a 22 gram moveable back weight and comes in 9 and 10.5 degrees.

It suits faster swinging golfers who spin the ball too much. If your speed is average or below, the MAX will usually carry farther.

Ping G430 SFT: for golfers who slice

The SFT has a 460cc head and a 22 gram back weight with two draw settings, designed for golfers who slice consistently. It came in 10.5 degrees only.

It suits golfers whose regular miss goes right, for a right handed player.

Ping G430 MAX 10K: the most stable

The MAX 10K is named for its combined MOI of more than 10,000. It has a 460cc head that Ping called its biggest profile to that point, a Carbonfly Wrap crown and a 28 gram back weight. It suits golfers who care more about keeping the ball in play than shaping shots.

Ping also offered lighter HL builds of every G430 driver except the LST for slower swing speeds. If you have a slower swing, ask about that when you shop.

Which G430 should you choose?

  • If your swing is on the slower side: the MAX or MAX 10K, ideally in an HL build or with a lighter shaft.
  • If your miss is a slice: the SFT.
  • If you are a mid to high handicap who wants fairways: the MAX 10K, or the MAX if you want a slightly smaller look.
  • If you swing fast and spin it too much: the LST.

What should you check when buying one used?

  • Crown and face. Sky marks and light paint wear are cosmetic. Look for cracks, dents or chips, especially on carbon crowns and faces.
  • Weights. Check that the back weight is present and tight, and note which position it is in.
  • Hosel. Make sure the adapter tightens properly and note the loft setting it is in.
  • Shaft. The shaft matters as much as the head version. Check the flex, weight and length. Not sure which flex you need? Read What Shaft Flex Do I Need?

Every used club at GolfRoots is listed on its own with exact specs and a 1 to 10 condition grade, so you know exactly which version, loft, shaft and flex you are getting. Our guide to what wears out on used clubs covers this in more detail, and every order comes with 60-day returns.
